Tata Motors showcased Tata Altroz Racer at the 2023 Delhi Auto Expo. The Altroz Racer is the sporty iteration of the Altroz hatchback. The car not only gets cosmetic changes and additional features, but it also gets mechanical upgrades as well. Tata Motors recently confirmed that it will be launching the Altroz Racer via social media. When launched the sporty hatch will directly compete with Hyundai i20 N-line.
Prices are expected to start from Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom).
Talking about the exterior, the racer gets a dual-tone theme of red and black with white stripes over the bonnet and the roof. The car also gets blacked-out ORVMs, roof rails, an extended spoiler at the back, and alloy wheels. However, the size of the alloy and tyres remains the same.
The same theme is carried over to the interior too. The sedan gets blacked out the interior with red and white accents around AC vents, seats and gear lever. The main highlight here is the addition of a bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a new UI. The Altroz racer also features a fully digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats, a wireless charger, an air purifier and an electric sunroof.
Now let’s talk about the biggest update. The Altroz gets a more powerful engine compared to the regular Altroz. The racer is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cyl, turbo petrol engine which puts out 120 bhp of power and 170 Nm of torque. The engine comes paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. It is also expected that Tata might offer the Altroz with the Dual-clutch DCA automatic gearbox.
Tata Altroz hatchback already has a 5-star safety rating. In addition to this, the Altroz Racer gets 6 airbags to make it much safer for adult and child occupants. Other safety features will include TCS, ABS, BSC, EBD, CSC, TPMS and Reverse parking camera with sensors.
Tata Motors also showcased the CNG variant of the Altroz hatchback at the Auto Expo. The CNG kit will work in tandem with the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated 3-cylinder petrol engine which currently produces 86 bhp of power and 113 Nm of peak torque. However, the power and torque output will likely drop down to 72 bhp and 95 Nm of torque in CNG mode. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual only.
